I’ve voted in every election since 1968. I’ve seen this country go through some ugly chapters and come out the other side. What scares me now isn’t the disagreement — it’s that people have stopped listening. Same-day voter registration in every state. If you can show up, you should be able to vote. Period. We make it harder to cast a ballot than to buy a gun, and that needs to change.

I grew up in a segregated school. My granddaughter goes to a school with kids from everywhere, and she’s better for it. But her textbooks are falling apart and her teacher buys supplies out of pocket. We didn’t fight for a seat at the table just to watch the table fall apart.
