The science is settled. Extreme weather is here. And yet policy keeps stalling. Is it fossil fuel money, political cowardice, or something else? What’s one climate action — local, national, or personal — that you think actually moves the needle? And who do you think is doing this right?
I’m in favor of finding a balance of phasing out old technology while phasing in new. Let’s take advantage of and apply our scientific knowledge and resources! Government support of new American projects in wind, solar and hydrogen energy generation is key. Other countries (e.g., Germany, China) are scaling up and advancing these fields for the good of neighborhoods across their countries. Although it has taken many years to advance the technology, we are at a point where costs have never been lower. Heck, I’ve seen DIY solar panel kits in a local hardware store. According to the extreme weather I’ve witnessed personally, and the success the U.S. has had in the past developing technologies, I believe success is reachable.
